Resolutions
For years, I made images that evoked death, sickness, abuse, and neglect, connecting them to the larger political and environmental issues. The work investigated the transitory nature of the physical on both personal and universal levels, examining connections between them and their correlation to our collective human condition. In Resolutions, these images are deeply personal; the medical imagery is mine and my husband’s. The ideas – Émile Durkheim’s collective consciousness, Carl Jung’s collective unconsciousness and Lakota Shaman Lame Deer’s definition of reality (“The physical aspect of existence is only representative of what is real”) – are abstract, but examination of the MRIs and X-rays reveal their physical manifestation within our own bodies. Not only are we the purveyors of our own choices, but of their connections to others. This visual exploration helped me resolve my own personal demons: addiction, illness, injury, and pain. When this series was finished, I knew I reached resolution. All images are gum bichromate. Welcome to the Matrix and The Blue Door have thread and pins added. |
